The 3,800 s.f. three story single family residence occupies a prominent location just west of downtown Portland. Perched on a level plateau, the site offers major views to the Oregon Coast mountain range to the west and over the suburban community of Beaverton below. The linear floor plan aligned along a north/south axis is essentially one room deep in an effort to maximize views through the house to the distant views to the west and opening onto more intimate, contained courtyard views nestled into a large tree grove to the east.
The program called for the residence to be defined by three distinct zones where the lowest level would contain the guest suite, family room and third bedroom. Coupled with the garage and an outdoor pool, this level creates the base or podium for the building. The second level is accessed by way of a major exterior stair located along an east/west axis that bisects the plan that takes guests from the auto court up to the main living level of the house. The second floor or main level is dedicated to family living and entertaining. Living, dining, and family rooms along with the kitchen and study open out onto private grade level courtyards. Level three occupies the top floor of the building and contains the master suite and a second bedroom.
