Sony-Ericsson North American HQ
TVA Architects was selected through a national competition to design Sweden-based telecommunication giant Sony-Ericsson’s North American Headquarters. Services included master planning, design of core/shell and public spaces, interior design, branding and way finding. The project had to adapt to needs of diverse user groups, as well as promote communication and collaboration among occupants.
TVA developed a campus environment that captured warmth, flexibility, mobility, and technology within a context that offered a true marriage of site with building. Day lighting strategies have been employed throughout the facility, and the abundance of glazing has the bonus of affording views to the lake at the heart of the campus and to the distant treed horizon. Prevailing wind studies, the evaporative cooling effects of the central lake, and allowance for future growth were the driving features in the development of this site plan.
The space is connected to vibrant amenity and work areas that extend the spirit of the company to visitors and occupants alike. The design optimized the value of corridors and common areas as “communication areas.” Shared work centers are pulled out and opened up to main corridors, making users more visible and likely to be engaged by passing colleagues. The plan provides both planned and impromptu meeting spaces for employee interaction and collaboration. Mini-cafes, breakout rooms and special niches positioned along circulation routes provide both opportunity and tools for interaction among occupants.
