UO | Klamath Hall Synthetic Chemistry

This project is renovating a full floor of University of Oregon’s existing 1966 building to support synthetic chemistry faculty and student research laboratories, with an area of roughly 20,000 sq. ft. The new plan supports 60 eight-foot fume hoods with capacity to add 12 more in the future. This floor will be decoupled from the original building air handlers and fed by new supply and exhaust fans on the roof.

The central core of the building is used to consolidate shared equipment and put science on display through the use of large windows along the circulation spines. This added visibility facilitates user safety and enhances student recruitment. Student work areas are physically separated from wet lab space and provide clear lines of sight into the labs.
