Holman Riverfront Hotel
Activating the heart of Salem’s Downtown Historic District
As part of the Hilton Tapestry Collection, this 127-room hotel primarily caters to government and business travelers, offering much-needed centrally-located lodging to support the city in hosting larger events or conferences. The hotel includes 35 extended-stay rooms, featuring separate bedrooms, larger lounge and living room areas for working, as well as mini kitchens. Suites on the seventh floor offer expansive views of Riverfront Park and downtown, with ample space for meetings or larger group events. The ground floor is home to a restaurant and bar, a coffee shop, and a café.
In a meaningful tribute to Salem’s history, the hotel’s rooms and communal spaces bear the names of the city’s pioneering women, celebrating their contributions to the city’s legacy. Ground art prominently featuring strong female figures, further emphasizes this tribute, weaving the city’s rich heritage into the fabric of the hotel.
Named after the original building on the site, the design draws inspiration from the district’s contributing historic buildings. The result is a building that reflects, but does not replicate, the architectural style of the National Register-listed district, and adds to the district’s progressive development pattern. The façade features a carefully chosen palette of light brick and dark tile, echoing the Pioneer Trust Bank building next door, demonstrating a respectful acknowledgment of the local architectural vernacular. This seven-story building enhances the historic district’s progressive development, transforming a neglected corner of downtown and contributing to its long-term vitality.
