Nike Retail | The Grove
With a thoughtful remodel of the exterior, and full demolition & redesign of the interior, this three-level store was transformed into a Nike Field-House retail experience.
Designed with L.A. athletes in mind, one of the most impressive parts of Nike’s store design at The Grove are the featured tributes to the city’s most well-known sports teams and stars, such as Kobe Bryant, Allyson Felix, and Asthton Eaton.
Significant design features within the space include a grand, central staircase framed on one side by the glass enclosure of an internal elevator bank. Back-painted images of athletes on the pin-mounted glass span between floors and energize the space. In support of the art community, Nike hired a local graffiti artist to create murals that reflect the diversity of the community.
Behind the scenes, this project required a tremendous amount of coordination with a variety of regulatory agencies to realize Nike’s vision. TVA completed a thorough analysis of the construction type and fire ratings of the existing building to assess if it was possible to expose the structural framing system. Additionally, a study was completed to explore the feasibility of modifying the existing methane barrier system below slab in order to support relocation of the existing elevators.
The exterior scope of work included modifications of the storefront entry, a new second story window wall, paint, and new signage. Full demolition of existing store fixtures, finishes and lighting, and selective replacement of mechanical and electrical systems was required. New interior walls, finishes, store fixtures, lighting, mechanical and electrical systems were coordinated with the client per brand standards.
