WSU Tri-Cities Campus Master Plan

TVA Architects has recently completed a master plan for 198 acres of the Washington State University/Tri-Cities campus in Richland, Washington.

The master plan analyzes the phased growth of the campus. Currently consisting of four somewhat disjointed structures that are the product of unplanned evolution, the campus needs focus, expressions of student life, and additional opportunities for interface with local residents. Recreation fields were deemed to be an essential tool for this community interface and have been included in all of the proposed development phases.

An understanding of the climate of Central Washington led our team to recommend the implementation of a series of connected walkways, a landscaping plan that buffers gusting winds, and a tighter spacing for future structures, which will both reinforce the sense of ‘campus’ while pragmatically shortening the user’s exposure to the elements.
