Whole Person Health Psychiatric Residential Treatment Building

A purpose-built facility at the forefront of compassionate, trauma-informed behavioral health care.

TVA continues its longstanding partnership with Trillium Family Services with the design of a new Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility on their Portland Campus. The 11,000-square-foot building, the first ground-up addition to the campus in decades, expands Trillium’s capacity to provide essential psychiatric residential care to children across the region.

Designed by TVA following the completion of the campus master plan, facility will provide 12 psychiatric residential treatment beds for children in need of intensive support. As one of Oregon’s few providers of Subacute and Psychiatric Residential Treatment, Trillium offers critical services to some of the state’s most vulnerable populations.

The design emphasizes flexibility, dignity, and therapeutic support. Program spaces include individual, group, and family therapy rooms; a medical exam room; in-unit nursing and medication distribution areas; and quiet zones for de-escalation and crisis response. Care teams benefit from dedicated consultation areas and collaborative workspaces for partnering service agencies.

To further support healing and developmental growth, the facility incorporates play-based and therapeutic amenities such as secure outdoor areas, a naturally lit indoor playroom, and a sensory playroom developed in collaboration with an occupational therapy provider.

Working closely with Trillium and Fortis Construction, TVA delivered a transformative addition to the Parry Center Campus, designed to maximize value, support staff, and foster healing for children and families.

The building is sited in the midst of mature trees in the northern portion of the Parry Center campus, organized to allow different exposure and experience for the disparate program components. Inpatient residential spaces are situated to allow for maximum privacy but also to offer views to the campus’ renowned Healing Garden.

Shared program elements, used by partnering care agencies as well as folks from around the entire campus, are organized as a ‘storefront’ suite of services along the building’s south elevation.
